A heartily welcome to the African Music Festival - Emmendingen, which is taking place for the ninth time with the support of the City of Emmendingen!
Our aim and goal for this year’s festival, is to create a meeting point, a contribution to the integration of our foreign inhabitants and an exchange between cultures.
Our festival visitors can expect a great music program, bazaar, African food and much more. We grant to our festival visitors also the opportunity to have an insight into the way of life of other cultures.
This year's motto is: “Tribute to Mother Africa”
Why tribute to Mother Africa?
Raphael Kofi, the initiator of the African Music Festival, gives the answer: I lost my mother a day after the festival 2008 and I would therefore like to dedicate this year's festival to her!
 - Africa, the cradle of mankind, the continent on which mothers always play an important role in the life of the people. -
Therefore, our TOP-ACT is a woman for this year. It was not easy to find an artist that exactly embodies and combines what we were looking for, who has class and quality.
The special and exceptional artist is called CHIWONISO, from Zimbabwe.
She is the „Queen of Mbira Music“. Mbira is the African thumb-piano, which was only played by men until the time of the Zimbabwean independence.
Experience Chiwoniso and have your own opinion about this rebel woman. Why Rebel Woman? She sings what she thinks and feels, although the political situation in her country doesn't allow free opinions.
